Lingzhi (Reishi) AKA (Ganoderma lucidum) score in Thailand today

It is the height of mushroom (Hep in Thai) hunting season here in Northern Thailand. Just like in the Huachuca mountains back home in Arizona, the rainy season is always the best time to hunt "shrooms". I took a break from hunting the edible ones to look for Lingzhi (Chinese) or Reishi (Japanese) as we call it in the USA "experts" call this local species Ganoderma lucidum. I have been finding quite a few in the higher elevations in and around the pine forests.

Check out the wikipedia link above for information if interested. I have attached a few pics of todays score for your viewing enjoyment. I only pick the small fresh ones for my own use.

See you on the trail!

1973 Mountain man ride

Sandwich, Illinois 1973. I remember sitting in my pup tent under an apricot tree in my moms back yard with Joe Vogt, when a colorful kid named James Kaminky showed up with this news paper article(from the Chicago tribune) about 3 guys who rode horses from Arizona to Canada dressed as Mountain men.

I think for all 3 of us at age 15, it was pretty cool. I cut out the news clipping and still have it to this day....I recently found some pictures from the trip these guys made. It must have been quite an adventure.

The flick "man in the wilderness" (Richard Harris) and "Jeremiah Johnson" had come out a year earlier and my brother Arthur gave me 2 books about Mountain men to read 1. The last of the mountain men about Silvan Hart in Idaho, and 2. Lord Grizzly by Frederick Manfred, about Hugh Glass. These things all combined to set me on a quest for knowledge about wilderness living and survival that has never waned.

I have included a 2013 Arizona Republic interview with the trio on the 40th anniversary of their ride - http://archive.azcentral.com/thingstodo/living/articles/20130412arizona-canada-mountain-men-trek.html

Mushroom hunting in Thailand

It is the peak of mushroom season here in northern Thailand. Here, as in the USA I love to hunt wild mushrooms. Many of the local Thai species are the same as the USA (cinnabar's, chantrels, morels, etc.)
Here are a few pics for you of todays haul. Twernt bad cooked up in a stir fry with a little pork fat. yup, that chilli burned twice!

See you on the trail!
